Seek and Ye Shall Find...

My passion for detail began at a very young age. I grew up on an acreage in a small town, where most of my time was spent exploring the outdoors, helping on the family farm, getting lost in imagination and play—and always, always observing.

When I discovered photography through 4-H and realized I could capture and keep the magical details of the world I was always observing, something clicked. It became a way for me to hold onto beauty. To remember. To honor the wonder.

Awe Around Us was born during a season in my adult life marked by deep overwhelm, anxiety, and depression—fears that grew louder than I’d ever imagined possible. In the midst of it all, I found myself in a desperate prayer, pleading for relief and asking God, Where are You in this?

In that quiet ache, I received a moment of clarity—a gentle but clear reminder to pick up my camera again. To see again. To seek again. To live in awe once more… of nature, of the everyday, of myself, of others. And to slow down. To rest. To really rest.

To truly see and seek detail through a lens of gratitude requires slowing down. It’s a sacred counter-call to what the rushed world demands of us. But in that slowing, we begin to notice beauty again. In the leaves. In the light. In ourselves. In each other. And through that noticing, we’re invited to care for this miraculous world in a deeper way—one that honors the Creator himself.

The Zion series is a carefully crafted collection from my larger gallery, highlighting the seasonal and diurnal qualities of Creation. The vibrant autumn colors reflect a celebration of warm days, full life, and the symphony of coming together. The season of harvest slowly gives way to quieter tones—soft morning light, fading hues, and the revealing of winter’s bare textures.

Winter, with all its rawness, can harden us—like the frozen earth or a stone path. But time moves, and so does the heart. Slowly, the light shifts, the air softens, and the first notes of the trumpets of spring begin to sound the call to celebrate once again. New life. New rhythms. A new cycle of miracles, rising again and lifting us up along with it.

“Earth’s crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
But only he who sees takes off his shoes—
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.”
